Your pet's problem is a common, yet irritating one - both for the pet as well as you.
1. Use Notix Powder on your pet - apply the powder generously all over your pet and rub it into the skin. Also apply between his toes and below is feet in between the toes. Apply generaously on his neck, near his tail, on his tail, etc, everywhere on his body. All the ticks will die within 24 hours. Powder the area where your pet sleeps also.
2. Brush your pet throughly on the opposite direction of hair and then in the direction of hair with a tick remover comb, which has very close teeth.
3. Once the ticks are dead, they detach from the skin and can be easily removed by you.
4. You can also get a ticks collar at the nearest pet store. Before you get one you have to eradicate all the ticks on your pet's body - following the three steps above.
5. Kindly do the same immediately, so that your pet does not suffer any further.
Check your pet on a regular ongoing basis, so that you can stop ticks as soon as they latch on to your pet's body.

when I use a clipper on my dog it gets very hot. what can I do? I was told to use a blade cooler but where can I get it?
Jayeeta Ganguly |
 |
There are a couple of things which should be taken into account while using a clipper to ensure that the blade does not get hot.
- Give regular intervals/breaks while clipping the pet's hair. Say 10 - 15 seconds.
- Do not try to cut a knotted portion by tucking at it with the clipper, as this again strains the machine making the blade hot. Always open the knot with a comb or simply cut it with scissors and then continue clipping.
- Blade coolers are not available in India and have to be imported from abroad.
- Lastly, if one is not using a professional clipper, it will make the blades hot, faster.

I am interested in finding our about pet grooming courses both in India and overseas. Your profile mentions that you have undergone training at an institute in Thailand. Is it possible for you to share the details of that institute and your overall experience with it?
Pooja |

We are running a grooming course of our own now. So this will make it less expensive and very easy for you to learn grooming in India itself.
Two things we do recommend to anyone wanting to get into grooming:-
- One just HAS TO BE a passionate pet lover to get into grooming.
- Though it may seem, it is not a easy job and needs a lot of hard work and dedication.

Is professional grooming necessary for my pet? |
 |
A scrub and a bath and it's done, this is what we perceive "Grooming" to be. Whereas in fact grooming is much beyond the traditional scrub n bath. Each breed has its specific requirement as far as the skin, coat and hair style are concerned. In addition there are various hygiene factors which need attention, as many of our furry friends besides having a place in our heart find a place in our beds as well.
Though one can do general grooming at home, professional grooming is necessary for your pet, to uphold general hygiene and breed specific styling. |

My pet is allergic to most shampoos available in the market. What should I do? |
 |
In the human world an allergy to a particular thing can crop up at any point of time in life. One could be using a particular thing or article for years but at some point of time the body could start showing resistance to the same thing. Similarly some pets could be allergic to some brand of shampoo from the start or could develop allergy to the same at any point of time.
If you feel that your pet is sensitive or allergic to a particular soap/shampoo kindly switch to any Herbal/Mild/Puppy soap or shampoo. One must also insure that the pet does not lick the lather while being bathed. If this does not work then do pay your Vet a visit. |

Why can't we get rid off the unpleasant odor on our pet even after a bath? |
 |
Apart from an accumulation of dirt, a persistent and distasteful doggie odor could
be caused by various factors including dental disease, ear infections, anal gland
secretion or even oily skin. A closer look at your dog may help you find the problem or you could always ask your friendly neighborhood Vet to take a look |

 |
How often should my pet be groomed? |
 |
The duration between each grooming session depends on the nature and condition of your pet's coat, but a general timeframe is anywhere between 2 to 4 weeks. Many pet lovers have their pets groomed every other week or even every week. |

What all can I do at home as part of grooming? |
 |
Daily brushing is recommended if you have a hairy pet and on alternate days for other breeds. Cleaning and caring for your pet's ears is important as it helps reduce the chance for ear infections and excess wax build up. If you have a breed like Pekingese, Pug, Boxer, British Bull Dog, etc. which have folds under the eyes, you should also check and clean under and around the eyeballs, using a cotton ball to remove or reduce moistness and any dirt accumulation what so ever. Routine brushing, cleaning and at-home examination lets you identify any infections or other problems early. |
